What clear aligners cost in the UK

Private clear aligner treatment in the UK costs from about £650 to straighten the upper or lower teeth with a remote company, to £3,700 or more with a dentist. On 22 October 2026, remote companies listed treatment for both upper and lower teeth at £849 to £1,790, and dentist-led packages ran from £995 for one or two teeth to £3,695 for complex crowding. Invisalign does not publish a UK price; the practice sets it. Adults usually pay privately, because NHS orthodontics is mainly for under-18s and is normally a fixed brace.

What you pay depends mostly on three things: how much tooth movement you need, whether a dentist examines you in person, and what the headline price leaves out. Whether aligners suit your teeth at all is covered in what clear aligners can and cannot treat.

Published prices, October 2026

These are the prices each company showed on its own website on 22 October 2026. Where a company was running a time-limited code or sale, we have left the discount out and used the price without it. Prices can change, so check the provider's own page before you compare. An arch is one row of teeth, upper or lower; "both arches" means treating both rows.

Smile White's four packages show how much the price changes with the amount of treatment needed. Refresh, at £995, is for very minor relapse, with up to four aligners, and is not suitable for straightening more than one or two teeth. Mild, at £1,995, covers a few teeth or small gaps. Moderate, at £2,795, adds bite correction for moderately crowded teeth. Complex, at £3,695, is for more complex crowding.

Invisalign has no national price. Some practices publish theirs: Angle House Orthodontics in London lists Invisalign for both arches from £3,250 for a short plan to £5,250 for comprehensive treatment in its September 2026 fee list. Impress estimates that UK clear aligner treatment generally costs £2,000 to £5,500, and Straight Teeth Direct puts in-clinic treatment at £3,500 to £5,500. These are examples and company estimates, not averages, but a practice quote for fuller treatment usually runs into the thousands.

NewSmile is not in the table. When we checked on 27 October 2026, its UK aligners could not be ordered online: the order button led to a missing page, and the shop listed retainers and night guards but no aligners. Our NewSmile review sets out what we found.

Why prices differ

How much needs to move. A short course to correct one or two teeth that drifted after retainers were left out is a much smaller job than moving crowded teeth and correcting the bite. Smile White's prices rise from £995 to £3,695 across that range.

One arch or two. Treating only the upper or lower teeth costs less. Smile Perfect charges £649 for one arch against £849 for both. One arch only works if all the teeth you want to move are on it and the bite still fits afterwards.

In-person or remote care. Remote companies review your impressions or scan and follow progress through photos. Dentist-led treatment includes an examination, clinic visits and in-person help if something goes wrong. The General Dental Council said in May 2021 that there is no effective substitute for a physical examination when deciding whether direct-to-consumer orthodontic treatment is suitable, and that patients should be given the name of the dentist responsible and be able to contact them directly. What the headline price may leave out

• Impression kit or scan. Included by some companies and sold separately by others, for £54 to £99 on the sites above. Ask whether it is refunded if you are not suitable, and whether a repeat kit is free if the first impressions cannot be used.
• Refinements. Extra aligners if your teeth do not follow the plan. Straight Teeth Direct includes one round; Smile Perfect one refinement; Smile White includes them subject to clinical eligibility. Ask how many are included and what happens after that.
• Retainers. You will need retainers for life to stop your teeth moving back. Most packages above include a first set. Replacements are extra: Straight Teeth Direct's annual retainer plan is £179 a year if your retainers are under 18 months old, otherwise £239 for the first year, and Impress's retainer subscription is from £300 a year. • Dental work before you start. Smile White says a scale and polish is not always included and is usually £195, and that fillings or other work needed first are charged separately. Any provider's examination may find something that needs treating before aligners.
• Lost or broken aligners. Ask what a replacement costs.

Two worked examples

These are hypothetical, built from the published prices above to show how the totals add up.

Remote treatment with ongoing retainers. Straight Teeth Direct's impression kit (£69) and treatment (£1,790) come to £1,859, including one set of retainers. If you then joined its annual retainer plan while those retainers were under 18 months old, at £179 a year for three years, the total would be £2,396.

Dentist-led treatment on 0% finance. Smile White's Moderate package is £2,795, or £93.16 a month for 30 months at 0% APR. Thirty payments of £93.16 come to £2,794.80, so the finance costs nothing extra. If the dentist recommended a scale and polish at £195, the total would be about £2,990, before any fillings or other work.

Paying monthly

Add up the payments and compare the total with the cash price. On a 0% plan, such as Smile White's, the total matches the cash price. On an interest-bearing plan it does not. Impress's example of £55.22 a month for 48 months at 15.9% APR is a loan of £1,990, its one-off price for the lightest plan, but the payments add up to £2,650.56. That is £660.56 more than paying in one go.

Straight Teeth Direct offers in-house plans without a credit check: three payments of £629 (£1,887 in total, £97 more than paying at once), or £499 up front and £179 a month for eight months (£1,931, £141 more). With the £69 SmileBox, the totals are £1,956 and £2,000, against £1,859 paid in full.

A credit agreement can also outlast the aligners, and treatment can run longer than planned: it often lasts 6 to 24 months, and longer if the aligners are not worn as instructed.

NHS treatment

Braces are often free on the NHS for children under 18 when an orthodontist finds a problem that affects day-to-day life, such as eating or cleaning the teeth. Where NHS treatment is offered, it is usually a fixed brace worn for one to two years. Clear aligners are not routinely provided on the NHS.

Adults usually pay privately. The NHS Business Services Authority says NHS orthodontic treatment is not usually available over 18, although a local commissioner can approve a case where the functional need is great. In England, if you are already 18 when referred, that approval is needed before treatment starts. For under-18s with a clinical need, an NHS assessment comes first; a private plan is a choice if NHS treatment is declined.

If you stop, or the result falls short

Before you pay, ask what you get back if you stop, including any fee for the impression kit or scan, aligners you have not worn, and what happens to a credit agreement. Those terms are in the provider's contract, and your statutory consumer rights may also apply.

A results guarantee is a contract term, not a clinical promise, so ask exactly what it covers.

• What is refunded if I am not suitable, or if I stop partway?

• If I pay monthly, what is the total, the APR and the term?
