Editorial standards

How Aligners.co researches, writes, checks and corrects its guides and reviews.

These standards apply to every guide, provider review and status page on Aligners.co. How we compare covers the method for comparing providers.

Who writes our pages

Guides and provider reviews are written and checked by the Aligners.co Editorial Team, and each page is credited to the team. Each page shows when it was last updated, and its sources are listed with it.

Sources and how we use them

We use these sources, and say in the text whose claim something is:

  1. Providers' own current pages, terms and policies, for what a provider offers, charges and promises. These are the provider's claims, and we attribute them to the provider.
  2. Regulators, professional bodies and official registers, such as the General Dental Council, the US Food and Drug Administration, state dental boards, Companies House, the British Orthodontic Society and the American Association of Orthodontists.
  3. Published clinical research, where it exists for the question being answered. Where a provider's claim rests only on its own data, we say so.
  4. Customer reviews, read as a sample of experiences on a stated date. They show which problems come up, not how often they happen.

Each review lists its sources with the date we accessed them, and shows the date its prices were checked. Facts on our pages must trace back to the sources listed on them, and pages are checked against those sources when they are written and when they are updated.

When information is missing or conflicting

When a provider's pages disagree with each other, we say so and show both versions rather than choosing the more favourable one. When a fact is not published, we say it is not published. We do not fill gaps with assumptions, and we do not describe an impression kit, a scan or a photo check as a dental examination.

Clinical information

Clinical statements are written from professional guidance and published research, and kept to what those sources support. Pages that explain treatment, risks or suitability need review by a dental professional: a GDC-registered dentist or orthodontist for UK pages, and a US-licensed dentist or orthodontist for US pages.

No page on Aligners.co has completed clinical review yet. When a page has been reviewed, it will show the reviewer's name, qualification, what they checked and the review date. We will not label a page as clinically reviewed before that has happened.

Commercial influence

How the site is funded, and how that may affect what you see, is set out in Ownership and funding.

Corrections and updates

If you think something on a page is wrong or out of date, Contact explains how to tell us. When we correct a price, a fact about a provider or clinical information, we update the page and its updated date. Providers change prices and offers often, so each review shows when its prices were last checked.
