Spark aligners
Spark, made by the orthodontic supplier Ormco, is a sensible choice if a clinician you trust recommends it for your case and puts refinements and retainers in writing. Choose it for the clinician and the terms, not the brand. Published fees vary by practice, and our sample does not show whether Spark is generally cheaper or dearer than Invisalign, so compare written quotes for the same case and inclusions.

- £2,600 to £5,500Set by your practice. Three UK practices publish both-arch Spark fees from about £2,600 to £5,500. Ask whether retainers and extra aligners are included. Details
- How you start
- An examination and 3D scan with a Spark dentist or orthodontist.
- Who checks your progress
- Your treating dentist or orthodontist, in person at the practice.
Spark is provided through dentists and orthodontists who examine you, plan your treatment and see you in the practice. In the UK it is mostly offered alongside Invisalign rather than instead of it. Ormco's claims that its plastic is clearer and stains less come from its own data.

Price
Spark has no national price; each practice sets its own fee. Three UK practices that publish Spark fees:
| Practice | Upper or lower teeth (one arch) | Both arches | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| East Midlands Orthodontics, Nottingham | Spark 10 from £2,150; Spark 20 from £2,750; Advanced from £3,165 | Spark 10 from £2,750; Spark 20 from £3,150; Advanced from £5,175 | Listed in a table headed Spark/Invisalign; a separate Invisalign table on the same page gives different fees, so ask which applies. Refinement £500. Clear retainers £190 one arch, £380 both. |
| Portman Smile Clinic | Spark 10 from £2,079; Spark 20 from £3,015 | Spark 10 from £2,605; Spark 20 from £4,295; Advanced from £5,495 | Headline "from £1,625" is not explained on the page. |
| Oxford Orthodontics Practice | Full from £4,118 | 10 aligners £2,970; Spark 20 £3,300; Full £4,400 | Also lists "Spark 35" at £4,000. Private clear retainers £130 per arch. Private adult consultation £125. |

Finance terms vary as much as fees. East Midlands Orthodontics offers 0% for up to 18 months, then 9.9% APR, through Tabeo. Oxford Orthodontics Practice asks for a 50% deposit and spreads the rest over up to 15 months. On any credit agreement, check the APR and the total amount repayable, not just the monthly figure. Our cost guide explains what usually sits inside a quote.

Offers and discount codes
We have no verified current offer from Spark. That does not mean there is no promotion: we list one only after checking it. The prices in this review are Spark's prices without any promotion.
If Spark shows a discount or a code when you visit, check its end date and terms on Spark's own site before you rely on it, and compare the total you would pay. We list an offer only after checking it on the provider's site and recording its terms, including any end date the provider gives.
How treatment works
- Consultation and records. A dentist or orthodontist examines you, takes a 3D scan and any X-rays they need, and checks your teeth and gums are healthy enough to start. Some practices charge for this: Oxford Orthodontics Practice lists £125 for a private adult consultation.
- Plan and preview. The clinician plans the tooth movements in Ormco's Spark software and can show you a simulation. It shows the planned movement, not a guaranteed result. Agree the fee and what it covers before you approve the plan.
- Waiting for aligners. Ormco makes the aligners and sends them to the practice. This wait comes before treatment starts, so ask how long it usually takes.
- Fitting. The clinician may bond attachments, small tooth-coloured bumps that help the aligners grip, and may plan to polish a little enamel between some teeth to make space.
- Active treatment. You wear the aligners about 22 hours a day and change them on your clinician's schedule. Portman Smile Clinic describes weekly changes and a visit about every six weeks. The British Orthodontic Society says aligner treatment often lasts 6 to 24 months.
- Refinements and retainers. If teeth fall behind the plan, the clinician rescans and orders more aligners. At the end you move to retainers.
If you lose an aligner or one stops fitting, contact the practice and keep your recent aligners. Do not skip ahead or force a tray that will not fit fully over your teeth. Our guides cover cleaning aligners and what aligners can and cannot fix.
Spark treatment levels
UK practices price Spark by level, based on how many aligners your plan needs:
| Level | Typical use | Aligners, as practices describe it |
|---|---|---|
| Spark 10 | Minor crowding or spacing, or relapse after earlier braces | Up to 10 |
| Spark 20 | Moderate cases | Up to 20 |
| Spark Advanced (some practices say "Full") | Complex cases | No set limit |
Each level can treat one arch or both. Ormco says Spark can treat crowding, overbites, open bites, deep bites, crossbites and Class II bites, but your clinician decides whether it suits your teeth.
The level is the package Ormco sells to the practice. Your contract with the practice can differ, especially on refinements.
Ormco's pages for some other countries set out how many refinements each package includes; its UK pages do not, so ask your clinician which level your plan uses, how many refinement rounds your fee covers and what happens if you need more. East Midlands Orthodontics, for example, lists a refinement at £500.
What we like
- In-person care
A dentist or orthodontist examines you, plans treatment and sees you at the practice.
- Levels for minor to complex cases
Practices offer Spark 10 and Spark 20 for simpler cases, so you are not always paying for unlimited aligners.
- You can see the plan first
Ask to see the simulation before the aligners are ordered.
What to be aware of
- Not shown to be cheaper
One Nottingham practice groups Spark and Invisalign in one fee table, though a second table on the same page prices Invisalign differently.
- Material claims are Ormco's own
Claims that TruGEN is clearer and stains less come from Ormco's data.
- Inclusions vary
Refinements and retainers depend on both the Spark level and your practice contract.
Clinical oversight
Your dentist or orthodontist is responsible for your treatment and sees you in person. Spark is offered by both general dentists and specialist orthodontists. You can check any clinician on the General Dental Council register, which also shows whether they are on the specialist list for orthodontics. For bite problems or a case another dentist has called complex, it is worth seeing a specialist.
Ormco's doctor locator groups Spark providers into tiers based on how many Spark cases they complete each year. Ormco says the tiers show experience with Spark, not quality of care.
For problems with aligners, appointments or billing, your contact is the practice, not Ormco. If a complaint about private treatment is not resolved by the practice, the Dental Complaints Service can help.
Retainers, refinements and refunds
You will need retainers after treatment to stop your teeth moving back, and your clinician will tell you how long and how often to wear them. Wearing retainers is part of treatment; paying for a retainer plan is a separate choice. Ormco makes Spark retainers, which your practice orders and prices, and practices can also make their own. Published prices give a sense of the cost: £190 for one arch or £380 for both at East Midlands Orthodontics, and £130 per arch at Oxford Orthodontics Practice. Ask whether the first set is included and what replacements cost.
Refinements depend on both the Spark level and your contract, as above. Refunds, cancellation and what happens if you move are set by the practice, so ask for those terms in writing before you pay a deposit.
Alternatives worth comparing
| Option | How it differs from Spark | Price context |
|---|---|---|
| Invisalign | The best-known dentist-provided system, offered by more practices | East Midlands Orthodontics publishes two fee tables that do not match, so ask for a quote for each system |
| Angel Aligner | Another dentist-provided system, offered by fewer UK practices | Practice quote |
| Impress | A clinic chain that provides Invisalign aligners at fixed plan prices, at its own clinics in England | £1,990 to £3,990 for its three adult plans |
| Fixed braces | Work without daily wear discipline; more visible | Adult metal braces £4,000 at Oxford Orthodontics Practice; £5,250 for both arches at East Midlands Orthodontics |
If your practice offers more than one aligner system, ask why it recommends Spark for your case and whether the fee or refinement terms differ. Our guide to teeth straightening options compares the main approaches.
What the evidence shows
Ormco says Spark's TruGEN plastic is clearer, more comfortable and more stain-resistant than "the leading aligner brand", and that Spark reduces refinements by over 20%.
These are Ormco's own comparisons, not independent studies, and its UK page is written for clinicians.
The case photographs it shows are selected examples.
Online reviews mostly describe practices rather than Spark itself, so read reviews of the practice and clinician you are considering. We have not treated patients with Spark or surveyed its customers.
Who this may suit
Spark suits someone whose chosen dentist or orthodontist recommends it, especially if the practice's Spark terms on refinements and retainers are as good as or better than its terms for other systems.
If price decides it, compare the same practice's fees for Spark, Invisalign and braces, and compare fixed-price providers such as Impress, because the fees we found do not show Spark as the cheaper option.
Questions worth asking before paying
- Why do you recommend Spark rather than another system for my case?
- Which Spark level is my plan based on, and does the fee cover one arch or both?
- How many refinement rounds does my fee cover, and what does another cost?
- Are the first retainers included, and what do replacements cost?
- Are you on the specialist list for orthodontics, and how many Spark cases do you treat each year?
- What would Invisalign or braces cost here for the same case?
Bottom line
Spark is a credible dentist-provided alternative to Invisalign, best chosen because a clinician you trust recommends it and offers good terms, not because of Ormco's material claims or an expected saving. Ask which level your plan uses, get refinements and retainers itemised in writing, and compare the same practice's fees for other systems and braces.
